2011 PDL Summer Recap

The Springfield Demize ended the season going 1-12-3 after a rollercoaster summer.  The Demize faced off against Heartland League rivals Des Moines Menace in the home opener at the newly renovated Greenwood Stadium Field at Cooper Sports Complex.  The Demize were unable to stop the tandem of John Sosa and Coady Andrews in the first half, Sosa providing the two opening assists with Andrews getting goals in the 14th and 24th minute.  The highlight of the game was the stellar goalkeeping by Drury University stand out Stephen Conner who made seven saves but was unable to keep the Menace at bay.

The season took an upswing in June as the Demize made the three hour drive to Kansas City to face the Brass at their new game venue: Overland Park Sports Complex.  The Demize had eight shots on goal but only one was able to beat Andy Fitzpatrick in goal.  Stephen Conner yet again came up big for the Demize, only letting in one of the seven shots he faced in 90 minutes after the Demize were stripped of possession in the midfield.  The draw urged the Demize onwards though with the team coming up with a 2-1 win at home in their next outing.  Jose Esparza opened up the scoring with just six minutes left to play in the first half, scoring in the 29th minute off of a Felipe Arce assist.  Dean Lovegrove though he had earned a share of the spoils in the 80th minute with a solo effort only for Juan Maffey to turn provider with six minutes left on the board for Chris Anzalone to get the game winning goal.

The Demize were then on the road to the Thunder Bay Chill where their defense lasted them 86 minutes before Chill striker Sergio Villalva put in the game winner.  The Demize were similarly able to hold out defensively the next day in Thunder Bay on a two game road trip but Anthony Putrus’ second half goal was enough to give Thunder Bay all three points.

The Demize ended June with a 2-2 draw against the Saint Louis Lions after going 2-0 down inside of seven minutes.  Jose Esparza brought life back into the Demize with a 40th minute goal, with Juan Maffey able to get the game tying goal in the 60th minute with a solo effort.  The Demize had another agonizing loss to WSA Winnipeg with Nathan Douglas’ lone goal in the 74th minute being enough to win over 10 man Demize.  The season ended with the Demize getting another draw at home against the Saint Louis Lions, Jonathan hinds finishing in the fifth minute off of a Oscar Zaleya assist.

F.C. New York, Demize Announce Partnership
Springfield to Become FCNY Feeder Club

F.C. New York News Release - www.fcnewyorksoccer.com

Wednesday, November 24, 2010

GARDEN CITY, N.Y. – F.C. New York of USL PRO today announced its affiliation with the Springfield Demize of the Premier Development League. The two clubs will exchange best practices, while Springfield will act as a feeder club for F.C. New York.

"From our inception we have wanted to establish a number of affiliates through all levels of soccer, both in the United States and abroad," F.C. New York Technical Director Matt Weston said. "Our vision is to have a network of clubs that share a common soccer philosophy while building both brand awareness and scouting the best young talent.

"Chris Hanlon shares many of our ideas and has a great work ethic. He has built a fantastic program in Southwest Missouri and together we will continue to build both brands and ultimately offer soccer players the dream of one day playing professional soccer. The top Demize players will have the opportunity to try out with F.C. New York."

Demize General Manager Hanlon said: "The Demize is the only soccer organization in Southwest Missouri that provides a straight path from the U5 academy players all of the way to the Premier Development League. The partnership with F.C. New York goes on to show the natural progression of the Springfield Demize for amateur players to the professional level. The partnership will allow the top Demize players the chance to prove themselves on the professional stage in USL PRO."

The affiliation agreement will also include the exchange of both players and staff, allowing for representatives of each franchise the chance to spend time at each other’s facilities during the USL season. That hands-on approach will be the catalyst for ideas and future development in order for each organization to reach its full potential.

About F.C. New York – Bringing the greatest sport in the world to the greatest city in the world is the theme for our organization. As the newest member of United Soccer Leagues (USL) we will start professional play in 2011.
