Demize Draw 1-1 with Tulsa

Demize stay unbeaten in the Heartland Conference

Demize Draw 1-1 with Tulsa

The Demize NPSL team was back on the field for the National Premier Soccer League on Tuesday night, this time for the rematch from the 2019' Heartland Conference Championship game against Tulsa Athletics.

The game started slow with both teams trying to figure out each others playing style. From the onset the Demize were able to dominate possession culminating in minute 16` where #2 Stephen Al-Sayeed made a good combination with #4 Joshua Lewis-Evans and #7 Quentin Hornung.  Hornung made a great cross inside the box to #15 Nelson Landaverde that got cleated from behind and the center referee immediately called for a penalty kick.  Jake Buckle #10, steps up for the penalty kick and shoots to one side and Tulsa's keeper jumps to the other side with no chance for a save. [1-0]. After the Demize goal, Tulsa Athletics playing a high pressure 3-5-2 system,  tried to be more offensive and hold the ball to try to find the equalizer before halftime but again the Demize defensive system was up to the task making no mistakes and stopping all of Tulsa's chances during the first half.

To start the second half Tulsa Athletic's was able to keep possession and started to create some penetrating chances to find the equalizer.  The Demize defense lead by center backs John Clout and Mitch Stephens was solid marking the Tulsa offensive system but eventually in the 60' minute the potent Athletics offense would create a great counter attack with #22 Aboubakr Diallo making a great cross to  #21 Joe Ruiz to finish with a great header, no chance for #0 Matty Wallace that tried to make the save by coming off his line. [1-1].

After the goal the game slowed down again. Both teams collecting some yellow cards while trying to create counterattacking opportunities.  With a lot of substitutions late in the half for the Demize they seemed to pick up the tempo in the final fifteen minutes as the Demize tried to press forward for the game winning goal. Unfortunatley the Tulsa back line and keeper were up to the task making a key save in the last minutes of the game to secure the 1-1 draw.

Good surprises from the Demize with #15 Nelson Landaverde (former all conference member of Wichita FC), playing great as a left winger and creating a lot of chances in the first half of the game and #5 Patrick Principe (of BR2 Sports) was solid as a left back playing well on defence making no mistakes and closing down that side of the field. Both players started and made their debut for the Demize NPSL. Also #6 Erik Pereira was back from a groin injury that took him out of the lineup in the home opener against the Wolves . As our right winger he made several good crosses and created some offensive chances for the Demize. The final surprise was #8 Jaxn Rogers (former Demize player) who is now playing for Tulsa Athletic this 2021' season as he recently relocated to the Tulsa area. Jaxn was subbed on late in the second half.

Next up for the Demize is an away game on June 9th against Reign FC in Bartelsville, Oklahoma. The Demize NPSL will be back in action at home June 12th, at LCS Cooper Stadium with kickoff at 7:30pm.
