The end of March saw the Demize Academy and Lady Demize sending seven teams to compete in the John Talley Showcase and Shootout in Memphis, Tennessee at the Mike Rose Soccer Complex. The event hosted teams from all over the south and midwest with international competition from both the Portsmouth Academy from England and Soccer Scholar Ide Nua from Ireland.
The 2010 boys made history being the youngest Demize team to ever go to Memphis. They showcased winning all their group games to face Cinncinati United FC in the finals, winning 1-0 to claim the championship. The team scored 13 goals while only conceding 2 in the four matches played.
The 2009 boys won their first two games to go directly to the final. They won the final in style with a score of 7-1. The team scored 17 goals in three matches and only conceded 4 in the Croatia division.
The Demize Acadmey 2008 boys went back to Memphis to defend their championship title from 2018. After winning their first two group matches they fell in the semis after a controversiall no call as keeper Toby Ipsen had the ball kicked out of his hands after making the inital save. The 2008 team played some tough competition and will be back next year to reclaim the title.
The Demize Academy 2003 boys were also back to defend their title from the 2018 campaign and after three scoreless matches found themselves out of the championship game based off points.
The Demize Academy 2002 boys were also back in action and after falling in the semi finals in 2018 against the Chicago Fire Reserves. This year they we able to claim second place in the Turkey round robin division with a 2-1 record, scoring 6 goals while only conceding 2 during the weekend.
We also want to recognize all the teams that participated including the Lady Demize 05-06 team partnering with the SMSA 2005 Girls team and the Demize Academy 00/01 team making this the largest showing of Demize teams up to this point. We are excited about taking even more teams to this international event in 2020.
