Total Demize Opening Weekend Recap
Springfield (MO) - September 2nd, 2010

Total Demize Soccer Club had a very successful opening weekend with league play at Lake Country and in Kansas City’s Heartland League as well as competing in the Founders Cup in Springfield, Mo.

The U10 boys team had a very successful opening weekend, competing in their first ever tournament as a team by taking part in the Inaugural Founders Cup hosted by Lake Country Soccer.  After a grueling month long pre-season in 90+ degree weather, the boys put all of their hard work to use.  Playing against Nixa Soccer Club, the boys slowly geared up to score four goals in the opening half.  After shaking up the positions a bit, the boys were able to play freely in different positions, with every player on the team being involved in at least one goal en route to an 8-0 victory.

The boys’ second game of the day was against the newly remodeled FC Springfield Legends.  Again showing their dominant play, the boys finished with an 8-0 victory.  Sunday saw them make it three for three, reproducing their form of Saturday with another 8-0 victory over Queen City Destroyers.  The Championship game produced a truly memorable game for the boys, playing against an equally strong Hurricaines FC from Arkansas.  The U10 squad found themselves down early, conceding their first goal of the tournament.  They responded in style, quickly returning parody only to let in another goal before half time.  After a flurry of chances, including Cole hitting the upper 90 cross bar with a half volley, the score line remained the same.

The half time team talk was thrown out of the window as HFC scored again after the break, making the score line 3-1.  With a bit of luck, a long ball from the midfield up saw the cross bounce a few yards in front of the goalkeeper and over his head.  The boys showed true character to fight back, with Jaxon scoring a beautiful snap header to equal everything up at 3-3.  Total continued to push, with the HFC goalkeeper miraculously being able to hold on to a near-perfect free kick from Cole that was destined for the top corner.  With 10 seconds left on the clock and all things looking like they were heading to penalty kicks, HFC was able to counter attack and sneak in at the back post for the game winning goal to win the Championship game with Total Demize taking the Finalist position.

The U14 girls also had a strong tournament at the Founders Cup, with their highlight match being a 1-0 victory over Kansas Rush Swoosh.  The last game of the tournament shaped up to be the championship match, as Rolla Lady Knights finished barely above Total Demize SC and Nixa SC.  With TDSC and NSC both tied on points, a victory either way would see the winner crowned Champions, and the loser finish in third place.  Total scored first, as an early goalkeeper mistake allowed for the opening goal.  Nixa continued to press, and got their goal to make it a very tense match.  With only a few minutes left on the clock, TDSC were awarded a free kick that would clench the game, only for the shot to be taken over the bar.  Almost immediately, Nixa broke down the other way to slot past the onrushing keeper to secure the 2-1 victory and first place.

The U18 girls have had a busy recruiting process during preseason to gear towards their college showcase tournaments with multiple girls on the team being forced out of play due to ACL and other knee ligament tears.  Total Prodigy went into game one to play against KSA Hawks who already hoisted a 3-0 record coming into the game.  After playing a strong defensive game, Total Prodigy limited them to only one shot, with newcomer Shelly R scoring the game winning goal.  Megan and Sarah both shared the shut out going into game two.

Again playing against KSA Hawks, the opening stages were quiet but the Hawks were out for revenge and scored twice in the last five minutes of the first half. Showing their perseverance, Total Prodigy scored three goals inside of the first four minutes to gain the lead.  With the momentum going only one way, the girls went on to score another two to end the game 5-2.  Lauren had a hat trick in the match, and with Shelly scoring another two she scored a hat trick on the day.

The U16 girls were also in Heartland League play, playing two games on Sunday against Springfield Soccer Club before playing KC Fusion Klein.  Showing their dominance, the girls went on to beat SSC 6-0 with Brittany scoring three, Jordyn scoring twice, and Hannah F scoring once.  Their second game went even better, scoring seven times without conceding a goal to end the day with a +13 goal differential.

The U12 boys and girls both had strong opening day results, with the U12 boys drawing 3-3 against SSC and the U12 girls winning 4-1 over FCS Legends.
